There's no stopping the box office rampage of Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan: 2, which is witnessing an extraordinary audience turnout in cinemas. Produced by Lyca Productions in association with the Madras Talkies banner, it has now been officially announced that the epic historical action adventure film has hit new numbers at the box office worldwide with over 300 crore in collections. PS: 2 has reached the staggering numbers in less than two weeks and is undoubtedly a massive achievement for a Tamil venture, with many speculating the film could surpass the collections of last year's Ponniyin Selvan: 1, which crossed the 500+ crores mark in 50 days of its release.

Featuring music composed by Academy Award winner A. R. Rahman, Ponniyin Selvan: 2 picks up right after the events of the first installment and sees the lead star cast reprising their roles starting with 'Chiyaan' Vikram as Aditha Karikalan, Jayam Ravi as Arunmozhi Varman, Karthi as Vallavaraiyan Vanthiyadevan, Trisha as Kundavai, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in dual roles as Nandini and Mandakini, while Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prakash Raj, Prabhu, Rahman, R. Sarath Kumar, Jayaram, Lal, Radhakrishnan Parthiban, Vikram Prabhu, Kishore, Ashwin Kakumanu among others also make appearances. Based on acclaimed Tamil writer Kalki Krishnamurthy's best-selling books, there has been a lot of debate surrounding Mani Ratnam's big screen adaptation that includes the various plot elements, character arcs and the major events in the narrative. Many are also complimenting the filmmaker for making Ponniyin Selvan a reality, which many had previously had attempted to make, but couldn't.

With Ponniyin Selvan: 2 now doing stellar business at the box office, all sights will be on it to become the highest-grossing Tamil film of all-time considering the first installment is currently at the second spot, while also staying put as the 15th highest-grossing Indian film of all-time.
