Academy Award-winning composer A. R. Rahman has begun work on the background score for ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan: 2, which is scheduled to be launched in theatres worldwide on April 28. The upcoming epic historical action adventure film is a sequel to the 2022 box office blockbuster, Ponniyin Selvan: 1, produced by Lyca Productions in association with Madras Talkies. This latest announcement from the team about the PS: 2 BGMs will come as a sweet surprise to fans considering the highly-anticipated first single from the film, 'Aga Naga', was released earlier in the day. Pictures from the recording session at the Abbey Road Studios in London have now been released by the makers and we can see A. R. Rahman immersed in his work on the Ponniyin Selvan: 2 background score as Mani Ratnam watches on. Check out the photos below:
Ponniyin Selvan: 2 is one of the biggest Tamil films keenly awaited by fans, especially after the first installment to Tamil writer Kalki Krishnamurthy's celebrated book of the same title went on to become a staggering box office success. With the Mani Ratnam and A. R. Rahman combo always producing magic in each of their films, the chart-topping composer once again delivered a complete album for Ponniyin Selvan: 1 along with a thunderous background score, which as well is keenly awaited by fans. The Ponniyin Selvan team will be looking to push the word about the upcoming sequel ahead of coming out in cinemas next month as the release of the 'Aga Naga' song and the background score work update have come as a double delight for everyone.
Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies will be looking to come out firing on all cylinders with Ponniyin Selvan: 2 and trump the box office collections of the first installment, which grossed more than 500 crores worldwide. The sequel sees the cast of PS: 1 returning to their roles starting with 'Chiyaan' Vikram as Aditha Karikalan, Jayam Ravi as Arunmozhi Varman, Karthi as Vanthiyathevan, Trisha as Kundavai, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who will be reprising her dual roles - Nandini and Mandakini. PS: 2 will also include Aishwarya Lekshmi, Prakash Raj, R. Sarathkumar, Parthiban, Jayaram, Prabhu, Sobhita Dhulipala, Vikram Prabhu, Lal, Rahman, Kishore, Ashwin Kakumanu, Nizhalgal Ravi, Vinodhini Vaidyanathan, Jayachitra, Vidya Subramanian, Mohan Raman, and Riyaz Khan in the supporting cast, and we can expect a few surprises from their roles as well.
