In a recent exclusive interview with Galatta, director Obeli N. Krishna, whose next big film, Pathu Thala, starring Silambarasan TR, revealed if the story is connected with the actor's Thotti Jaya released in 2005. The filmmaker said, "There are a lot of differences between Thotti Jaya and Pathu Thala. In Thotti Jaya, Simbu is in his 20s, running for the love of his life, whereas in Pathu Thala, he is around 40, a middle-aged and well-matured person. This character does everything slowly and steadily. So, there are quite a few differences between these two films." Obeli Krishna also shared info about STR's new look in Pathu Thala saying, "He had drastically reduced weight for Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu to become so slim. That look won't be suitable for Pathu Thala. He needs to look like a 40-year-old mine mafia person. He should look like an elder person. I requested him to put on some weight and he obliged and finished the film."

Following the massive success of Maanaadu and Vendhu Thanindhadhu Kaadu, Silambarasan TR will be looking to make it a hat-trick with Pathu Thala, which is set for a March 30 release. Obeli N. Krishna had earlier directed the Suriya, Jyotika, and Bhumika Chawla-starrer Sillunu Oru Kadhal and there are huge expectations for him to come out with flying colors. Pathu Thala has music by A. R. Rahman and the first single 'Namma Satham' featuring his vocals was released on STR's birthday earlier this month. The upcoming gangster film is said to be a remake of the Kannada blockbuster, Mufti, with Simbu and Gautham Karthik portraying the roles of Dr. Shivarajkumar and Srimurali, respectively, while Priya Bhavani Shankar, Kalaiyarasan, Anu Sithara, and Teejay Arunasalam among others will be appearing in major supporting roles.
