Mani Ratnam is one of the leading directors in India. He had delivered many hit films that have crossed the boundary of languages including Roja, Bombay, Iruvar, Dil Se.., Raavanan, etc. Ponniyin Selvan is called the Magnum Opus of the director. The two-part film is based on the epic novel of Kalki based on the Chola empire. The books have been planned to be adapted as films my many leading names of the industry and only Mani Ratnam has achieved in making it into a film. Ponniyin Selvan: 1 was released last year and had become a blockbuster. Ponniyin Selvan 2 is set to release on April 28.

The cast and the director of Ponniyin Selvan 2 are on tour promoting the film. In a press meet, when a reporter asked why the songs in PS:2 are not like the ones in PS: 1 the director said “When the first part ended, Arulmozhi Varman will go into the sea, we don’t know what happened to him, from there the second part begins. So, like in first part, we didn’t have the time to add songs and dance numbers in the second part. So, the music that comes in PS:2 will come with the story like background songs. There won’t be songs or singing but the songs will be a tool for storytelling”.

As Ponniyin Selavn 2 is set to be released in theatres in less than a week this shows that people can expect a packed story about the Cholas. The film has a huge star cast that includes Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Jayaram, Trisha, Aishwarya Rai and Aishwarya Lekshmi in important roles. The film also has music composed by Oscar Award-winning composer A.R. Rahman.
