Dhanush's second directorial after Pa Paandi (2017), the tentatively titled D50, rolled into production yesterday. The upcoming film is also being called DD2 and is the second time the prestigious Sun Pictures banner is collaborating with the two-time National Award-winning actor after the blockbuster success of Thiruchitrambalam (2022), and expectations have been massive since the project was announced back in January. With production currently underway, the first casting in D50 has now been hinted at by actor Kalidas Jayaram, who took to his Instagram Story on Thursday, July 6, to drop a photo of himself along with the 'Variya' song from Dhanush's cult classic, Pudhupettai (2006).

Posting the picture, Kalidas also wrote the words, "To new beginnings", and added a clinking glasses emoji, with an animation of blood spattering. Although the cast of D50 is yet to be announced, the Natchathiram Nagargiradhu star's name has been linked to the film for a while now and this latest hint suggesting that he's a part of the illustrious project has gotten fans quite excited. Kalidas has landed good roles in big films of late starting with playing a cop in Kamal Haasan's Vikram (2022), which went on to become a box-office money-spinner under Lokesh Kanagaraj's direction. It is to be noted that he is also said to be appearing in a key role in Kamal Haasan's next biggie, the highly-anticipated Indian 2, being directed by Shankar.

D50 is being made on a massive scale and Sun Pictures is leaving no stone unturned in making it a grand venture. The film also includes a stellar technical team among whom are cinematographer Om Prakash, editor Prasanna G. K., art director Jacki, publicity designer Kabilan, and costume designer Kavya Sriram, and is a reunion for them all with Dhanush once again after they previously collaborated with the actor on his various projects.
