Ponniyin Selvan 2 is a recent hit film that was released in theatres on April 28. The film called Magnum Opus of Mani Ratnam also features music by Oscar award-winning composer A.R. Rahman. The film bankrolled by Madras Talkies with Lyca Production is seeing huge numbers at the box office, as the makers had recently announced that it had grossed Rs. 300 crores and has become the highest grossing film of the year. A new song video from the film has now been released by the makers on YouTube.

The makers of Ponniyin Selvan 2 have now revealed a lyric video of the song Ilayor Soodaar. The video shows many inscriptions on the walls of a cave that tells a story. It shows a woman who looks like Oomai Rani, played by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, watching a big ship coming her way. It then shows the women helping a man swim ashore and they become close. But, then more ships arrive and soldiers arrived on the shore on horses and they take the man away leaving the women alone. The whole story as simple drawings on the cave wall in the song video. Ilyayor Soodaar was sung by Carnatic singers Keerthana Vaidyanathan, Niranjana Ramanan and Vaish. The song also has special lyrics that has been excerpted from a Sangam literature by the poet Kudavayil Keerthanar.

Fans and movie buffs were expecting the release of background scores and now the lyric video has been released. A song video of Ilayor Soodaar was already revealed by the makers before the release of the film. It also has huge star that include Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Prabhu, R Sarath Kumar, Vikram Prabhu, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Jayaram and others in pivotal roles. The music Composer A.R. Rahman has a liking towards Tamil literature and this song features verses from Sangam Literature.
