Academy Award-winning composer A. R. Rahman's daughter Khatija Rahman is making her debut as a music director in the Tamil film, MinMini, acclaimed filmmaker Halitha Shameem announced on Monday, June 12. The hit director revealed the big news on social media, while also sharing a photo from their composing session. Taking to Twitter, Halitha praised Khatija and wrote, "So happy to be working with this exceptional talent, Khatija Rahman for MinMini. The euphonious singer is a brilliant music composer too. Some great music underway (sic)."

Khatija Rahman has been a part of the film fraternity from a young age having sung in her father A. R. Rahman's films. She made her singing debut with the song 'Puthiya Manidha' alongside legendary singer SP Balasubramanyam in 'Superstar' Rajinikanth's 2010 blockbuster Enthiran. Khatija also sang the 'Rock a Bye Baby' song in the smash hit 2021 Kriti Sanon-starrer Mimi in Hindi and more recently the 'Chinnanjiru Nilave' track in Mani Ratnam's blockbuster epic historical action-adventure film, Ponniyin Selvan: 2. A. R. Rahman's daughter is now taking a leap turning composer with MinMini and fans have been sending their love and support to her for the next big phase in her musical career. A. R. Rahman and his wife Saira Banu are parents to three children - daughters Khatija and Raheema, and son AR Ameen.

MinMini is also Halitha Shameem's next after she directed the segment 'Loners' in the 2022 Tamil anthology series Putham Pudhu Kaalai Vidiyaadhaa, which premiered on Amazon Prime Video. The upcoming film will see popular Malayalam actor Esther Anil alongside Gaurav Kalai and Pravin Kishore as the lead stars and is gearing up for a release later this year. Halitha Shameem made heads turn in her directorial debut in 2014 with the children's adventure film, Poovarasam Peepee, which garnered immense critical acclaim. Her next big screen film was the smash hit, Sillu Karupatti, in 2019, which got a huge response from audiences and critics alike. Halitha's comedy-drama film Aelay starring Samuthirakani and K. Manikandan too was well-received after it premiered directly on television in 2021.
