As Tamil cinema is growing to a whole new level, so are its stories. The narration have gotten longer and more complex over the years that some films that are being released these days are coming in two parts in order to present the complete picture. Sequels do not just stop there as films that were released years back are also being planned to be given installments for their very own franchise. This is starting to become a common practice because of which some films are already in line to be made. Let us have a look at some of the upcoming sequels which have got huge expectations among the film buffs:

1) PONNIYIN SELVAN 2:

The first installment of this Mani Ratnam magnum opus tells the story of the fight for the throne on who will rule the Chola dynasty. While Ponniyin Selvan: I ends with a cliffhanger of Arunmozhi Varman (Jayam Ravi) presumably dead, the upcoming sequel will pick up right where it left off and will conclude with showing the audience who will finally sit on the Chola throne.

2) VENDHU THANINDHATHU KAADU 2:

While the first part of this Gautham Vasudev Menon directed gangster flick tells the story of the rise of Muthu (Silambarasan TR) from being just another nobody in the city of Mumbai to one of the most feared dons, the highly awaited sequel to the film is touted to carry on forth by focusing on him and his journey post-don phase.

3) INDIAN 2:

Shankar's first installment on the film focused on an honest veteran Senapathy (Kamal Haasan) who decides to teach corrupt officials a lesson and to make them work diligently without accepting bribes. The sequel might see his return after ma ny years in order to once again eliminate corruption from the system by killing the corrupt bureaucrats.

4) VIDUTHALAI (BOTH PARTS YET TO RELEASE):

Adapted from the short story Thunaivan written by Jeyamohan, the upcoming crime thriller will be released in two parts. This Vetrimaaran will feature film stars Soori and Makkal Selvan Vijay Sethupathi in lead roles. The film will depict the relationship between a police constable and a convict.

5) KAITHI 2:

The first part of this Lokesh Kanagaraj film tells the tale of an ex-convict, Dilli (Karthi), and his journey to meet his daughter, Amudha, for the first time after leaving prison. The film ends on a happy note with Dilli and Amudha going back to his village together but due to the post-credit scene, it is confirmed that a sequel is definite. It shows that Dilli has a connection with the antagonist and the sequel is therefore expected to be a potential prequel. There was also a confirmation about the same in Vikram, as well.

6) VADA CHENNAI 2:

The first part of this Vetrimaaran flick tells the story of how an expert carrom player, Anbu (Dhanush), gets involved with local gangsters to settle their feuds and stand up against them when they plan to wipe out his village. While the film ends with Anbu attaining the trust and support from the people, the sequel will deal with Anbu taking on Rajan's mantle to fight for the welfare of the people. On the other hand, Chandra (Andrea Jeremiah) tries to seek revenge for the death of Rajan, by hatching a plan to kill Guna, Senthil and Velu.

7) VETTAIYAADU VILAIYAADU 2:

The first part of this Gautham Vasudev Menon film tells the tale of how Raghavan (Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan), a police officer, sets out to catch a serial killer. The first part ends with a bang with a closure. However, the second part is on the cards and the story of the sequel is set several years later when Raghavan is retired, but yet is assigned a case to be solved.

8) PUSHPA 2:

While the first part of this Sukumar directorial focuses on the rise of Pushpa (Allu Arjun), the sequel will pick up from where it left off. It will focus on Pushpa's rule and SP Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat (Fahadh Faasil) plotting revenge for the insult he faced at the end of the first film.

9) AAYIRATHIL ORUVAN 2:

The first part of this Selvaraghavan adventure told the story of a journey to find an archaeologist who went to Vietnam in order to search for any existence of the prince of the Chola dynasty. While the first part had its own story to tell, the sequel for this flick will follow its own plotline.

10) CHANDRAMUKHI 2:

While the first part of the 2005 horror comedy film had its own plot, the upcoming sequel will be a part of the same saga but may not have the continuation of the characters from the first part.

11) PICHAIKKARAN 2:

The sequel for this film is currently in the works and more details regarding the project are awaited.

12) JIGARTHANDA 2:

Though the sequel will have its very own story, it is still expected to follow the same theme and feel of the first part.

13) PISAASU 2:

While Mysskin's first part had a beautifully haunting story to tell, the upcoming sequel will not be a continuation of the 2014 film but instead will have its own yarn to spin.

14) KGF 3:

While KGF 2 ends with Rocky's story coming to an end after he drowns himself with his shipment of gold, the post-credits scene of the movie showcased the final draft of K.G.F: Chapter 3, hinting at a potential sequel.
