Two youth from the metropolitan city have been arrested by the police after they took two minor girls away with promises of marriage. Both have been booked under the POCSO Act.

According to sources, the parents of two class 10 students approached the Kannagi Nagar police last Wednesday, saying their daughters did not return home from school. A case was registered and a hunt was on for the two girls. After scanning the CCTV footage from the school area, the police found that the girls had gotten into an auto-rickshaw. The auto rickshaw's number was traced back to one Kanagaraj (25). His phone was switched off and during inquiries, the cops found that another friend of Kanagaraj was missing alongside him.

Kanagaraj was later traced to a loge in Kumbakonam. A special team of police left for Kumbakonam and picked the two girls, Kanagarajan and his friend Vijayakumar from the lodge. Later during inquiries, the girls admitted to sexual exploitation and confessed that the two had promised the marry them. A case was registered against both of them under the POCSO act and they were taken into judicial custody
