Dhanush's Karnan has opened to an outstanding reception from the critics and the general audience and the film is off to a flying start at the box office. Karnan is said to be the next big hit of this year after Thalapathy Vijay's Master and the audience are celebrating the film in the theatres. At the same time, the film has also created a lot of discussions and debates among the people of Tamil Nadu. Popular actor and politician Udhayanidhi Stalin took to his official Twitter page to share his thoughts about the movie. He mentioned that Karnan is a film that needs to be celebrated and revealed that he congratulated Dhanush, director Mari Selvaraj and producer Kalaippuli S Thanu over phone calls.

At the same time, Udhayanidhi added that he pointed out a factual mistake made by the makers. The film's story is inspired by the real life incidents that took place at Kodiyankulam in 1995 during AIADMK's regime. However, in the film, it would've been stated that the story takes place in 1997, the phase where DMK was in power. The Kodiyankulam incident happened only during AIADMK's rule in 1995 and Udhayanidhi stated that he pointed out that error to the makers. Director Mari Selvaraj and producer Thanu have apparently assured that the change will be made and the reflection is expected in two days.

The tweet is loosely translated in English as, "I saw Karnan. The film, which talks about the unimaginable pain of the oppressed needs to be celebrated by the people. I talked to Dhanush, producer Kalaippuli S Thanu sir, and director Mari Selvaraj and congratulated them for their work. The film is inspired by the 1995 Kodiyankulam incident that happened during AIADMK's rule, but it is mentioned as 1997, when DMK was in power. I pointed out that mistake to the producer and director. They have agreed to make necessary changes in the next two days,'.
