Veteran actor K. D. Chandran, known among fans for his role as Juhi Chawla's father in Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke, passed away on Sunday morning. He was 86. Chandran had been admitted in a private hospital in Mumbai where had been undergoing treatment for dementia from May 12 and died due to a heart attack. Father to actress Sudha Chandran, he recently celebrated his birthday, with wishes pouring in from fans and those in the film fraternity. Sharing a picture of her father on her Instagram account, she wrote, "Happy birthday to you Appa…..thnx for inculcating te best values of life Nd making me what I m today.so proud to b Ur daughter….Ravi Nd myself wish u a Very happy birthday.lv u Appa." 

Hailing from Trichy and settled in Mumbai, where Sudha was born and brought up, K. D. Chandran went on to act in several notable Hindi films that included Junoon, the Aamir Khan-starrer Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke, Tere Mere Sapne, China Gate, Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega... and Hrithik Roshan's Koi Mil Gaya to name a notable few. Chandran played a major role in Sudha Chandran’s recovery after she lost her leg in a road accident in Tamil Nadu in 1981. Upon her leg becoming gangrenous, her parents decided to have it amputated after which she made a recovery and returned to Bharatnatyam with an artificial limb. Sudha Chandran's life story subsequently was made as a film under the title, Mayuri, which became a success across the country in 1984. Last seen as a guest on Bigg Boss 14, she has appeared on several dance shows as a judge.
