One project that has been generating massive buzz right from the moment of its announcement, the upcoming Telugu remake of the blockbuster Malayalam-language action thriller Ayyappanum Koshiyum is currently in production and has been announced for a worldwide Sankranthi release in January 2022. The Ayyappanum Koshiyum Telugu remake tentatively titled Production No. 12 will see 'Power Star' Pawan Kalyan and Rana Daggubati in an on-screen face-off reprising the roles portrayed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and Biju Menon from the Malayalam version, which was directed by Sachy, who passed away due to a cardiac arrest in June last year.

In the meantime, Sithara Entertainments, the reputed Telugu production banner bankrolling the Ayyappanum Koshiyum remake, announced on Friday that leading South Indian actress Nithya Menen has been cast in the film. Producer Suryadevara Naga Vamsi's Sithara Entertainments tweeted, "We are extremely delighted to welcome an exceptional & proficient talent @menennithya on board for our #ProductionNo12." Nithya Menen has established herself to be a highly-talented performer over the years in films across all South Indian languages, including appearing in Tamil blockbusters like Raghava Lawrence's Kanchana 2, Suriya's 24, 'Chiyaan' Vikram's Iru Mugan and 'Thalapathy' Vijay's Mersal, which also starred Samantha Akkineni and Kajal Aggarwal.
