Dasari Narayana Rao's prestigious 150th film Parama Veera Chakra, starring Balakrishna, disappoints completely! The film fails miserably to impress even the die-hard fans of Balakrishna in terms of all aspects: music, story, screenplay, direction and cinematography!
The film revolves around Chakradhar (Balakrishna), a popular film actor who has a huge fan base. One day, he gets a film offer from a military officer (Muralidhar) who narrates him the story of an Indian Army officer Major Jaya Simha. After a point, the officer stops narrating the story and asks him to come to Himachal Pradesh to meet the real Jaya Simha. Who is Jaya Simha and in what way is he connected to Chakradhar forms the rest of the story.
Balakrishna excels in the role as an army major. His getups as Raavana and Komaram Bheem are a treat to his fans. Balakrishna shoulders the film throughout, but the script hardly offers him any support. Three glamour girls Sheela, Ameesha Patel, and Neha Dupia have hardly much to do. Comedy by Brahmanandam and Ali and the spoof on Robot are unimpressive. Senior actors like Murali Mohan and Jayasudha have done a neat job.
The basic story is as old as the hills and it is not developed in a convincing way. Screenplay is not up to the mark in the first half, but it is comparatively better in the second half. Direction by Dasari is archaic and his narration is pretty slow. A senior director like Dasari should not have taken the audience for granted and should have realize that he is making a movie in 2011 and not in 80’s.
Coming to music, Mani Sharma's tunes are outdated and they remind us of 80's music. The timing of most of the songs is also improper. The cinematography by Ramana Raju is also very poor as he could not conceal the age factor of the hero. Editing is average. The dialogues are quite feeble and lacked the punch. All in all, Parama Veera Chakra gives you a feeling that you are watching a typical commercial film of early 1980's.
