Of late, Siddharth found little success in Telugu though he made an outstanding debut with Nuvvuvasthaananate Nenoddantaana and Bommarillu. One of the reasons may be his selection of movies! If we check his filmography, we can see that in the recent past, he has changed his course by selecting rank commercial films with stereotyped scripts and age-old narration! Siddharth's latest film Bava, directed by debuta Ram Babu, also follows a similar pattern!

It revolves around Veera Babu (Siddharth), a naughty youth who turns out to be a big headache to his village. Unable to bear the torture Veera Babu has been creating for them, the villagers try to send him away from the village. However, his father Seetha Ramudu (Rajendra Prasad) disrupts their plans and lets his son happily stay back. One fine morning, Veera Babu sees Varalakshmi (Praneetha) and fall in love with her. Then follows a saga of scenes in which he tries to impress her. Finally, Varalakshmi reciprocates to Veerababu's love, but by then, her elders fix her marriage with another guy (Santosh Samrat). However, Veera Babu and Varalakshmi marry secretly in a temple.

Seetha Ramudu comes to know about the marriage and tells his son that Varalakshmi is his cousin. He reveals that Veera Babu's mother is none other than Varalakshmi father's (Ahuti Prasad) sister. Since he feels that marrying someone without the content of the family members is a big mistake, Seetha Ramudu advises Veera Babu to hold Varalakshmi's hand only after he gets her parents' approval. What follows next forms rest of the story.

Siddharth tried his best to suit the character in every possible way; he changed his looks, took care of his costumes and tried to get the Godavari accent right. Despite his efforts, Siddharth fails to excel in this role. As usual, he is good in romance, but fails in sentiment scenes. Heroine Praneetha is perfect as a village belle. Her eyes are expressive. Rajendra Prasad is impressive though his role is limited. Santosh Samrat as a baddie is average.

Chakri's songs such as 'Pannedella Prayam' and 'Mila Mila' are good. However, background score is not up to the mark. Veeraa Pothana's dialogue is substandard. Arvind Krishna's camera has captured the village greenery so well that it is a treat to watch all those lush green fields and the beautiful Godavari river on screen. The film heavily lags in its second half and the editor should have trimmed it considerably. On the whole, the only notable point in Bava is Siddharth doing the role of a village youth; other than that, the film lacks novelty and freshness. It starts and heads in a predictable path, taking us once again to the eighties!
