With Poraali, the Sasikumar-Samuthirakani duo is back in K-town. After the super hit Subramaniapuram and Naadodigal we expect a lot from this duo. The film is directed by Samuthirakani and has Sasikumar, Swathi, Allari Naresh in lead roles. Interestingly this film is produced by Sasikumar under his home banner Company Productions.

Poraali is about the struggles of individuals in this competitive world. Each and every one of us have to fight daily to survive in this competitive world - this forms the basic crux of Poraali. Sundar C. Babu has composed the music while S.R. Kathir is the cameraman.

Ilankumaran (Sasikumar) and his friend Nallavan (Allari Naresh) visit Pulikutty's (Ganja Karupu) house in Chennai and decidesto stay there as they don't have any other place to go. Soon Kumaran and Nallavan find jobs in a petrol bunk.  During their stay in the city they meet the always-angry Bharathi (Swathi), a dancer in movies and Thamizharasi (Niveda). Kumaran has a heart of gold, who helps everyone when they are in trouble. And in order to help others he starts service with help of Nallavan, Niveda and Pullikutty,. This 24*7 helping service becomes very successful. In the meantime Bharathi falls in love with Kumaran and Nallavan has a soft corner for Thamizharasi. But when we think that this is yet another Kollywood flick with the same old story here comes the twist. A group from a remote village are looking desperately for Kumaran. Why are they chasing him? Who is Kumaran? What will happen next? Watch out for Poraali...

The Samuthirakani-Sasikumar duo always takes you by surprise and Poraali delivers on that account! Though the first half moves at snail pace the quirky one-lines and the comedy act between Allari Naresh-Ganja Karuppu save the proceedings. The story catches pace in the second half but before you predict anything the twist takes you by surprise.

Post interval Poraali is almost like an edge-of-the-seat thriller! The portrayal of a typical middle class colony (which includes a drunk bachelor, an always-fighting husband-wife and the house owner who doesn't want to have bachelors in that area) makes the film more realistic and interesting. But it would have been better if the director had tweaked his lengthy screenplay and reduced the violent scenes (especially in the second half). Kathir's camera works acts as the backbone for Samuthirakani's screenplay but Sundar C. Babu's background score fails to impress. The editing works could have been definitely better.

In terms of acting Sasikumar is the main highlight of the film. For a change he has tried his hands at comedy and romance this time and he succeeds to an extent. Swathi has improved a lot while newcomer Niveda gives a solid performance. Allari Naresh's and Ganja Karuppu steal the first half; their comic one liners and punches are fantastic. Jayaprakash and Soori appear in brief roles and they look perfect. Vasundhara has done a small but excellent cameo in the film with some amazing action sequences.

Overall Poraali, is not about any revolutionary movement but it narrates reality with the right dosage of entertainment.
