Madhumita is back with her second directorial venture Kola Kolaya Mundhirika. The cast includes Karthik Kumar, Shikha, Jayaram, M.S. Bhaskar, Kota Srinivasa Rao, Vasu Vikram, TMK of Evam theatre group and Delhi Ganesh. Madhumita‘s earlier venture Vallamai Tharayo had a very good response and also bagged the Tamil Nadu government‘s best family film award. Kola Kolaya Mundhirika is produced by Giriguja films with story and dialogues by Crazy Mohan. An out-and-out laugh riot which has been given a clean ‘U‘ certificate by the Censor Board, Kola Kolaya Mundhirika is a game we have played as children, and the film is something similar.
What is in it?
The film unfolds in the 1980s where a rich Zamindar struggles to protect his family‘s property (a set of valuable diamonds) from his half-brother Veerappan (Anandraj). Veerappan kills his brother and his wife but the diamonds, which have been hidden in a set of 4 antique chairs, go missing. An employee in the Zamin (Delhi Ganesh) knows the whereabouts of the chairs.
Fast Forward to the present era! Small time crooks Krish (Karthik Kumar) and Veni (Shikha) join hands to hunt for the diamonds after a few initial encounters. Krishna comes to know about the diamonds from Delhi Ganesh and begins his search. Greedy Veerappan overhears the conversation and follows Krish secretly with his two assistants, played by Vasu Vikram and new actor TMK. And then there is Police Inspector Mathrubootham (Jayaram) and his aide Vyapuri, who is in search of a chip which contains details of a Swiss bank account. What follows is a jolly ride filled with hilarious dialogues and crazy situations.
Who is in it?
Karthik Kumar essays his role with ease and his dance movements are also much better. His body language and expressions are apt for the film. Kola Kolaya Mundhirika is Shikha‘s maiden Tamil venture; she assays her role confidently and the duo shares an engaging chemistry. Suchithra has lent her voice for Shika. Jayaram as the sirippu police is at his best. M.S. Bhasker, Delhi Ganesh, V.S. Raghavan, Crazy Mohan and Radha Ravi have done their parts well. Cinematography by L.K. Vijay and editing by Vijay Venkatramanan adds value to the script. Music by Selvagaensh has lots of variety.
After exploring a serious theme in her maiden venture Vallamai Tharayo, director Madhumitha has chosen comedy as the theme in her second venture. With Crazy Mohan penning the script, Madhumitha has succeeded in her attempt.
