Aamir Khan's blockbuster Bollywood flick 3 Idiots (on screen adaptation of Chetan Bhagat's Five Point Someone) created wonders at the box office in 2009. And now director Shankar is all set to recreate the same magic in Kollywood for this Pongal with Nanban. Produced by Gemini Film Circuit, the film will also be released simultaneously in Telugu as Snehitudu. Music composed by Harris Jayaraj was released during his live concert in Chennai. It is also said that Vijay will appear in four different get-ups for a a duet song in the film. Director Shankar has taken special care to make sure his film appeals to all sections of the audience.

In the film, Vijay will appear as the unorthodox geniusRancchod Das, which was played by Aamir Khan. Jiva and Srikanth will appear as the naïve Farhan Qureshi and Raju Rastogi, which were played by Madhavan and Sharman Joshi respectively. Ileana D'Cruz will appear in the role played by Kareena Kapoor, and Sathyaraj will appear as the insensitive professor Virus, played by Boman Irani. Comedian Sathyan will play the role of Chatur (Silencer), which was played to perfection by Omi Vaidya. Apart from them, Anuya, S.J. Suryah, Raghava Lawrence, Kishore, Manobala, Uma Padmanabhan and Indrans will also play prominent role in the film.

The film was cleared with a clean U certificate by the Censor Board recently. It is also said that the film is likely to grace theatres one day earlier i.e. on January 12, 2012.
