Yaavarum Nalam: Music review!

Yaavarum Nalam is the long-awaited movie with Madhavan and Neetu Chandra in lead roles. Bollywood composers Shankar-Ehshaan-Loy have scored some impressive tunes for the Hindi-Tamil bilingual.

The first song 'Yaavarum Nalam' is sung by one of its composers. The tune is very sweet and there is only a subtle touch of rhythm to support it. Both the versions of 'Chinnakkuyil Koovum' are in Karthik’s voice. With a vocabulary that banks on expressiveness and a voice that dwells on pure melody, the singer and his rendition gain primacy over his contemporaries. ‘Kaatrile Vaasame’ by Shankar Mahadevan and Chithra offers some whimsical moments. Much of the instrumental addition and action happens in its remix version. Chithra’s voice is modulated and swathed in a silky feel. Shankar’s tonal embellishments certainly make the song completely enjoyable. ‘Oh Sexy Mama’ is a duet by Jassie Gift and Anuradha Sriram. Jassie’s low-pitched gimmicks and Anuradha’s expansive renderings crown the characteristically westernized number. Unobtrusive melody is the mainstay of Shankar Mahadevan’s remix number ‘Yaavarum Nalam’. The closing theme music is exuberant and greatly establishes the thriller genre of the movie.

Shankar-Ehshaan-Loy’s music for Yaavarum Nalam is intensely gratifying.
