Tamil poet and writer Gnanakoothan, also known as R. Ranganathan, passed away at his residence today after a long-standing illness. He was one of the key writers for Kamal Haasan's Marudhanayagam. A recipient of the Saral Awards and Vishnupuram honour, he has worked for a numerous publications. He was 77 and is survived by wife and two sons.
