Sadhana Samman award for Vairamuthu

Eminent poet, lyricist and writer Vairamuthu has been selected for Sadhana Samman Award this year. Awarded annually by the Kolkata-based Bharathiya Bhasha Parishad to 14 best writers (in regional languages), the award carries great value in the literary world. The fact that it comes from a literary body based in West Bengal, the hub of Indian literature, makes it more special. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 50,000, a certificate, and a promise by Bharatiya Bhasha Parishad to publish the winners' works in various Indian languages. Vairamuthu will be presented with this award in a grand ceremony to be held in Calcutta on April 18th.

This is not the first time Vairamuthu has been showered with accolades; he is the proud winner of Sahitya Academy award for his novel 'Kallikkathu Ithihasam' and five-time National Award winner for several film songs, including the songs of Roja.

Vairamuthu stated that he is extremely happy about receiving this award, as it is from the State which gave birth to literary giants Rabindranath Tagore and Bankim Chandra Chatterjee. He termed this award as a recognition given to Tamil, which is dearer to him than his own life.

Eminent writers Sivasankari, Jayakanthan, Indira Parthasarathy are other writers from Tamil Nadu who have received this prestigious award.

Galatta.com congratulates Vairamuthu on this achievement.
