After a long battle for more than seventy days, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa (68) succumbed to her illness today at the Apollo Hospitals. She suffered a severe cardiac arrest yesterday evening following which her condition worsened. ADMK supporters have already started to throng towards the hospitals ever since the news broke.
Starting her acting career in the South Indian film industry, she made her entry into politics in 1984. She became the first chief minister in 1991 and has ruled the state for over 15 years.
