Suriya's Raj Kapoor act
Remember the 1970 Bollywood cult hit Mera Naam Joker, starring Raj Kapoor and Russian actress Kseniya Ryabinkina! Now Tamil actor Suriya is all set to repeat the same circus act on screen in his upcoming 7Aum Arivu. The film is based on a circus artiste and Suriya plays the role of a trapeze artiste cum animal trainer. The unit is currently shooting at Great Bombay Circus in Coimbatore. The latest buzz is that Suriya will be performing all the circus acts himself without using a double in any of the sequences. Besides his circus acts, the actor will also be doing several innovative stunts in the film. A special trainer from Rajkamal Circus has been appointed to teach him the jumps and other special items he will perform in the movie.
Reportedly Suriya is also planning to perform the circus stunts he has learnt during 7Aum Arivu live for his fans closer to the release of the film.“Suriya will perform all his circus tricks live on stage at the music release function for our film. He doesn’t want his fans to think that the stunts they’d see him do in the film are special effects. He has worked hard to learn the tricks and he wants the audience to appreciate it,” Murugadoss confirmed to a leading daily.
According to sources, the actor is practising hard to get his body language right. He can now walk the trapeze, blow fire out of his mouth and juggle with six balls. “For the last six months, Suriya has been trained by a circus veteran who cameto Suriya's homeevery day for a couple of hours of practice. His character is not supposed to specialize in one skill alone. Suriya had to learn everything that a circus artiste does. He specially lovesball juggling. He has mastered juggling six balls simultaneously and loves performing for his kids and friends,” the director added.
“It’s been decades since any film set in a circus was made. I can only think of Raj Kapoor saab’s Mera Naam Joker and Kamal Haasan sir’s Approva Sagodiragal. Suriya pays homage to both the actors. His commitment to the project is so complete that he not only looks his part but also feels as though he’s part of a circus,” he concluded.
