SIFCC to boycott actors performing at IIFA

The Chennai-based apex body South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce (SIFCC) has decided to boycott Bollywood actors and technicians who perform at the upcoming IIFA awards to be held in Sri Lanka.

The apex body took the decision since the Sri Lanka Government has been violating human rights and killing Tamils for decades. "The boycott includes preventing releases of their Hindi films in the four southern states and enforcing non-cooperation against those artistes, if they choose to work in southern movies," said C. Kalyan, president of SIFCC.

It is noteworthy that a few days ago, SIFCC met their Bollywood counterparts and urged them to boycott the event, who declined since it was too late for them to back out. "We met J.P. Dutta and Manmohan Shetty, advisors of IIFA awards, but they felt that it would be difficult for them to call off at the eleventh hour as all arrangements were made,” C. Kalyan said. However, the SIFCC hasn’t yet made out a list of people who are attending the show.

Actors who are expected to attend the show are Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Lara Dutta and Ritesh Deshmukh. South Indian bigwigs A.R. Rahman, Shankar and Rajinikanth along with other colleagues have alreadyconfirmed that they willnot participate in the event.
