Sasikumar on cloud nine
Sasikumar’s first film Subramaniapuram (also spelt as Subramaniyapuram) is a phenomenal success and has broughthim accolades from all directions. The young director’s happiness knew no bounds when he attended the Idea-Mathrubhoomi-Amrita, for he was surrounded by the stalwarts of Malayalam Cinema – Mohanlal, Mammootty and others – patting and encouraging him. Sasikumar almost swooned listening to thepraise from actors whom he admires and regards highly.
Sasikumar wasat Idea-Mathrubhoomi-Amrita Award Night held in Thiruvanathapuram, for his film Subramaniapuram had been recognized as the “Path Breaking Movie of the Year”. While receiving the award, Sasikumarsaid that Subramaniapuram is a proof of cinema’s ability to transcend language, caste, creed, and other barriers. He thanked the people of Kerala for their support, the jury, and the organizers Amrita TV and Mathrubhoomi Daily. With childlike enthusiasm, Sasikumar described how he enjoyed watching Mohanlal and Mammootty movies in his younger days and how proud he felt to be brushing shoulders with them now.
Earlier, when Sasikumar came to the dais to accept the award, the singers who performed at the ceremony sang the famous song ‘Kangal Irandal’ from Subramaniapuram. There was a tinge of nervousness seen on Sasikumar’s face while he accepted the award amidst huge cheers.
Subramaniapuram, which played for more than 100 days in several theatres in Kerala, has endeared Sasikumar to the people of Kerala. At present, the director is acting in Nadodigal and making Pasanga under the direction of Pandiraj.
