RGV lashes out at A.R. Rahman

Ace Bollywood director-screenwriter-producer Ram Gopal Varma, known for his films across multiple genres -- psychological thrillers, underworld gang warfare, politician-criminal nexus and musicals -- lashed out at reigning music directors, including Oscar award winner A.R. Rahman, saying that they buried the music in South India.

Reportedly, the moviemaker was responding to upcoming actor RaNa’s comment about Ilayaraja’s soulful music in Chinarayudu. According to a leading website, Ram Gopal Varma commented that A.R. Rahman, Keeravani, Mani Sharma and Devi Sri Prasad had together killed music in films.

Interestingly, it was RGV who introduced Rahman to Hindi audiences with Rangeela; he also introduced Mani Sharma in Telugu but the film was shelved midway. RGV also said that unlike Ilayaraja, these music composers brought importance to sound rather than music. Anyway, it is yet to be seen how the entire film industryreacts to RGV’s rude remarks.
