On the day actor Kamal Haasan filed a case against Pyramid Saimira International Ltd. seeking compensation, there was reprieve for actor Vijay, producer A.M. Rathinam and director Perarasu. The Madras High Court quashed proceedings against the three in a case filed by various Bar associations, alleging that their movie Sivakasi depicted lawyers and the legal profession in a bad light.

 

The petitioners submitted that the sole purpose of this movie was to entertain audiences; the relevant scenes were not intended to hurt the feelings and sentiments of a noble profession.

 

Justice Reghupathi said that as the objectionable scenes were removed and the petitioners had tendered apology by way of affidavits, quashing the proceedings was in order.
