Prakash Swamy (Emmy Award Judge member) felicitation by SIAA
South Indian Artists' Association (SIAA) will felicitate Prakash M. Swamy, the eminent journalist, for being selected as a judge of the Emmy Awards Panel. The felicitation, which takes place at Park Sheraton at 7:00 p.m. today, will be presided over by Andrew Simkin, Consul General of the United States in South India and attended by several VIPs of Chennai.
The selection of Prakash as an Emmy Awards Panel judge is a matter of honour for all of us. Not only he has been selected to select from the Emmy Awards nominees, he has also been included as a member into the International and National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (USA). Before moving to the US, Prakash Swamy had been associated with The Hindu, India Today, and Ananda Vikatan. Later on, he worked in several Indo-American publications in the US.
Prakash M. Swamy is one of India’s path-breaking journalists with great experience and influence on readers’ minds. That is the reason several political parties gave him exclusive information and breaking news. Be it a political party’s celebration, collaboration or tragedy, he was often the first to break the news. He is one of the very few journalists who have a clout and say in our democracy. This achievement and his impartiality are the factors that won him a place as a judge for the prestigious Emmy Awards.
A little about Emmy Awards:
Emmy Awards are to television industry what Oscars are to film industry. This TV equivalent of the Oscars is conferred on those who excel in creating good TV programmes, be it documentary, short film, soap, sports magazine, etc. Three authoritative bodies decide who gets nominated (by polling) and its eminent panel of judge makes the final decision about the award-winners. The Emmy awards are classified as follows; the respective governing bodies are given in parentheses:
Primetime Emmy Awards are given to American primetime TV programming excluding sports (Academy of Television Arts and Sciences ).
Daytime Emmy Awards are awarded to daytime American TV programming, which also includes sports and related TV programmes. (National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences).
International Emmy Awards are presented to the best TV programmes made outside of US (International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences).
Prakash M. Swamy will judge American daytime programmes. Since he has also been selected as a member of International and National Television Arts, he can cast his vote in his selected categories to select nominees. It is quite a rare honour!
It is quite an honour for us to share this information with you. We congratulate Prakash M. Swamy on his stupendous achievement.
