Prabhu is like our big bro: Suresh

Actor Suresh, who tags himself as ‘an actor who has had so many comebacks’ is more than happy to be making yet another comeback,�this time with a movie that is bound to get him noticed. Suresh is one of the baddies, a corrupt cop, in Ajith’s most recent release, Aasal [Asal]. The handsome actor, who does not seem to have aged a day since we last saw him, dared to shave off his hair for the part. It was not exactly what the role demanded, but something he did just to show him in another dimension – something other than the blue-eyed boy that Tamil cinema has always seen him as!

“Every now and again, I make a comeback, but for some reason it had never gone beyond that. I still find it hard to shake off my Paneer Pushpangal image! That’s why I went in for a completely new look. It was not meant for Aasal, but for a Telugu movie, that just got delayed. Prabhu met me at the get together we had recently of all the 80’s heroes and heroines, and soon after that he offered me a role in Sivaji Productions’ Aasal,” reveals Suresh, who has done a commendable job as one of the good looking bad boys in the movie.

Talking about his rapport with Prabhu he says quite jovially, “In our days, we heroes were all very good friends. Cinema was not yet quite so big a business. We guys used to hang out a lot and have fun. Not quite so removed from each other as it appears to be now. Prabhu was always like a big bro. I remember him pulling Karthik and my leg, after a string of not so good movies from us. He would say, 'What are you guys doing?' and we would smile sheepishly and beg of him to just let it go. All in good spirit,” recollects Suresh.

As for working with Ajith… “He is quite a fascinating person. He has absolutely no airs. Very simple and humble. Being the hero he could have demanded that all the attention and spotlight be focussed on him. But he’s a team player. He wanted the movie to win and was so encouraging to all of us – allowing us all to shine. Sharing his limelight with everybody. He is quite unlike any of the heroes I have met,” says Suresh obviously in awe of Ajith.
