Padmapriya: Nadeera effect still lingers

Padmapriya was truly surprised when her friends started calling her Nadeera; such was the impact of her Pokkisham character. It is the sort of experience she would be happy to share with her grandchildren. But as the Pokkisham girl is only 25, with decades to go before she reaches that status, she will have to wait for a very long time.

Padmapriya said she had some reservations to join the Pokkisham team when Cheran invited her on board with a very brief description of her role. Though confident she could perform the role, she felt challenged by this role in which she could not use body language to express herself. Covered with a burqua, Nadeera had to express her feelings only through her eyes. Not a difficult task, thought Padmapriya, convinced that her eyes could convey her feelings.

“There was a lot of homework to do, talking to my Muslim friends and observing their mannerisms. But the best part was the support of Cheran, who helped me right through the making of the film,” said Padmapriya.

To savour Pokkisham, view it with an open mind, says Padmapriya. “If you observe deeply, there is the common thread of literature which brings Lenin and Nadeera together, not physical attraction. The two convey their feelings through letters. It's pristine love, rare and unforgettable,” said Padmapriya, reliving those moments.

With seven films in her kitty, including the historical Pazhassi Raja, Padmapriya
is at the best phase of her career. She is also acting with Siddharth in the Bollywood film Striker due for release in November.
