Mumtaj back with more oomph!

No matter what viewere say about Rajathi Raja with Lawrence in the lead role, the verdict about�his co-star Mumtaj is unanimous. What is that verdict? “Ooh la la la!” She played the lead opposite Vijaya T. Rajendar in Veerasamy, and then disappeared off the cine radar.

“I have always been here. After Veerasami, I took a break and was on a sabbatical. I was fed up with the kind of roles I was offered, with directors saying, ‘Madam sympathetic character, but you are not the heroine.’ This put me off. I wanted to do something different within the parameters of commercial cinema, as a box office success,” says Mumtaj, who has gone through a complete makeover for Rajathi Raja.

She’s lost oodles of weight and if she continues in this direction, she’ll join the size zero brigade! She reveals the secret behind her washboard abs! “I had a hormonal imbalance which made me put on weight. I took treatment and was on a diet. This helped me knock off 21 kg. I was a foodie, but now, I eat moderately and do not have any bad habits like drinking or smoking. After losing weight, I feel happier and am totally relaxed.”

She’s always been on the glamour hot list, but now it seems like the competition has gotten tighter. “I don’t have any competition because what they do, I can’t and what I do, they can’t. Glam girls like Namitha and Nayantara show cleavage and wear short skirts. I’m not saying that I wore a burkha, but I have not exposed the way they have. Yet, I was able to provide the oomph factor in a more convincing manner without looking vulgar. For any heroine to survive in this industry, glamour is a must, and I’m here to stay on my own terms,” she asserts. We can’t wait to see more of this revamped glam-gal.
