Magadheera to be released on Blu-ray Disc

Latest Tollywood sensation Ram Charan Teja's 2009 blockbuster Magadheera, directed by S.S. Rajamouli, is all set to be released on Blu-ray (an optical disc storage medium which supersedes the standard DVD format).

Magadheera will reportedly be the first Telugu film to be released in the Blu-ray format in the Indian market. Initially, the makers of Magadheera did not want to adopt this format due to the high cost and its low penetration levels in Andhra Pradesh. Market sources say there are only around 2500 devices in Andhra Pradesh capable of playing Blu-ray discs.

"But the sheer amount of requests on blogs and Twitter made me rethink my strategy for Blu-ray," producer Allu Aravind of Geetha Arts said in a press note. Geetha Arts will join hands with Balaji Video, the largest home video company, to release Magadheera on Blu-ray. The DVDs, which include a bonus disc with additional material, will be released in March.
