K. Balachander – The Legend

Writer, director and producer of more than 90 films in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi. K. Balachander is an artist with a message. Starting as an amateur dramatist and rising to become the legendary producer-director today, K. Balachander has crossed several milestones. He got his break in films as a scriptwriter for Deivathai (1964), he made his directorial debut in 1965 for the film Neerkumizhi, which was based on one of his plays; after that, he never looked back. A rare and successful exception to the makers of potboilers, he specialises in providing thought-provoking films in commercial mainstream cinema. So K. Balachander is an inspiration to most upcoming filmmakers today. He has the uncanny ability to spot talent and is credited with discovering and introducing Padmashree Kamal Haasan, Super Star Rajinikanth, Prakash Raj, Sujatha and many other established actors into the Tamil industry. Now it’s time for these discoveries to serve their discoverer. Prakash Raj produces the 101st film (Bilingual Poi in Tamil, Abhaddam in Telugu by “Gemini” Uday Kiran) under the banner Duet Movies for his master. The audio release of this movie is scheduled on 12th February at the University Centenary Auditorium, Chennai at 6.00 p.m. The producers have published a huge invitation with several pages showing some of the memorable stills from K. Balachander’s movies with today’s superstars (Rajinikanth, Chiranjeevi & Kamal Haasan) in the form of photographs and brief write-ups. This huge invitation book is signed by Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan and Prakash Raj. Abaddam is released with a tagline of ‘Vayasuki abaddam andam’.
