Jai’s musical ambitions
Kodambakkam is filled with youngsters who come from the most remote villages with dreams of making it big in cinema. And yet, most of our heroes insist they were not in this group – that they turned actors by sheer luck or accident. The same applies for Jai, who has a handful of movies to his name. He claims he was never interested in acting but was more keen about making a career in music. Being the nephew of music composer Deva, it was only natural that he took to music too.
“The reason I acted in Bhagavathy as Vijay’s brother was because I bore a striking resemblance to him, and director Venkatesh thought I would be apt for the part. But after that movie, for nearly four years, I did not consider acting at all. I was busy talking music with my cousins Srikanth Deva and Bobo Sashi. I even cleared the Grade VI examination from the Trinity College of Music, London. I was all set to turn music director, when singer Yugendran suggested my name to S.P. Charan and Venkat Prabhu for Chennai 28. I auditioned for all 10 main parts before I was selected. And thus began my acting career,” recalls actor Jai.
