Jaganmohini: Expectations reach fever pitch

Vittalacharya's magic created the original Jaganmohini (also spelt Jagan Mohini). The expectations for the remake, with Namitha in Jayamalini's place, has reached a feverish pitch with the release date nearing.

Director N.K. Vishwanathan said he is not feeling any pressure since he is confident that all the hard work will spell success on the big screen. For him, the testing time came when recreating the magic of the scene where the heroine places her leg on the fire.

“I had seen that act being admired by audiences yelling for more. We have retained that part with Namitha striving her best to do one better. This is only a sample, but there are several innovations which we have successfully implemented in the remake. "You have to remember that the original was only a dubbed version where the audience expectation was not fully met," said Vishwanathan, who has made a bilingual (no dubbing please!).

Though making a period film is considered risky, Vishwanathan felt what matters is a good script with graphics that enhance the quality of the movie.

The director assures that nothing will look out of place in the remake. “Hero Raja fitted the role of the prince with his debonair looks. He is an established name in Telugu which should improve the film's popularity,” says Vishwanathan on his choice of hero new to Tamil audiences.

Popularly known as NKV, the director is banking on three factors to hit the jackpot –  Jaganmohini has musical score by Ilayaraja, a comedy track with Vadivelu and the oomph factor of Namitha.
