Happy Mother's day!

Every year the second Sunday of May is celebrated as Mother's Day. It is one of the occassions when everybody takes as an opportunity torecognise their mothers and theiraltruistic service to their families. Though the concept of Mother's day has come to us from the western countries, it is absolutely befitting toour country- mothers and motherhood are worshipped by us. 'Matha(Mother), Pitha(Father), Guru(Teacher) and Deivam(God), this is the order in which we have been taught to pray.

In Tamil cinema the sentiment of motherhood has been well exploited.Starting from old times till now, mother's sentiment is used to the maximum extent in Tamil films. Stalwarts such as Sivaji Ganesan, MGR have portrayed the importance of themotherhood in so many of their films. Rajnikanth's 'Amma Endru Azhaikkada' song in Mannan isthe mostsuitable example forthe interpretation of the relationship between an affectionatemotherand dutiful son in films. Kamal's role in Per Sollum Pillaialong with K.R.Vijaya establishes his style of portrayal of mothers sentiment in movies. Prabhu's Chinna Thambi, Vijay's Villu are some of the other examples. In fact, there is no Kollywood hero who has not touched upon the mothersentiment in their films. Kollywood audiences tooshow a lot of appreciation for the sentiment.

So, this Mother's day let us thank and salute our dear mothers for their limitless love, care and support.
