Goa cuts expenditure on IFFI

The Goa government has unveiled plans to optimize sponsorships and minimize expenditure for International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2009, scheduled to be held in November-December in Panaji.

The master plan, prepared by Manoj Srivastava, Chief Executive Officer, Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), was placed before ESGs governing council, headed by Goa Chief minister Digamber Kamat. The 200 page document suggests there is immense scope for cutting the expenditure on the festival without compromising with its aura.

"We want to be financially self-sustainable without relying on governments for funding. Optimizing sponsorships and minimizing expenditures at whatever level possible is our goal," Manoj Srivastava said on Monday, adding that for the first time, the festival will introduce barter system which will double up with the sponsorship collections from this year onwards.

The ESG is a State government-promoted nodal agency to hold the festival in the tourist state, in association with Directorate of Film Festivals, a wing of Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry.
