Director Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi’s Gamyam seems to have impressed enough people to get remade in quite a few Indian languages. The movie is about a college guy who goes in search of his lover, who disappears without a trace after they meet with an accident. In his search, he befriends a bike theif. The search also gives him ample time for introspection. The movie was remade in Kannada as Savari and in Tamil as Kadhalna Summa Illa. And now, producer Mahendra Soni has announced that he has acquired the rights to make the movie in Bengali. “Scripting for the Bengali remake is on. We will begin shooting for Aparna Sen’s film, Iti Mrinalini, in October. Post that, we will begin shooting for the Gamyam remake,” he informs. Adding, “The film is very different from what we have done so far. The storyline is such that it can easily be set in Bengal.”
For his part, Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi says, “The rights were sold for a higher price in Tamil than in Bengali. I’ve been acknowledged in the credits for the Tamil and Kannada remakes of the film and expect the same for the Bengali remake too. Gamyam has a universal storyline. But I wouldn’t want to direct the Bengali remake.”And onecommon factor for all the Gamyam remakes, besides the story of course, is the lead lady Kamalinee Mukherjee. And the actress says she will be more than happy to play the part in the Bengali version also. Producer Mahendra Soni, however, is still on the look out for a director and cast for the movie.
