Many Kollywood films have made it big in recent times; most of these are small budget films with strong story lines. Kollywood films have been treading with concepts closer to reality. According to K. Balachandar, of late there is a lot of depth in every character essayed on screen. He also quoted instances from recently-released films like Pasanga and Kunguma Poovum Konjum Puravum.
The veteran director opines that a strong script with clear logic is a sure-shot recipe for success. When the audience is able to connect with the characters on screen, set in a realistic backdrop, the film is a guaranteed hit! Situations closer to life always worked and unkown actors have gained prominence today.
The director concluded that Kollywood needs a paradigm shift from its usual formula-based films as audience tastes have changed and taking the audience for granted may prove to be fatal. He advocated originality in place of remakes and added that film makers should not test the emotional level of the average cinemagoer too much.
