Fan club’s compassion
Human beings cannot live alone. They have an innate tendency to reach out for company; the more the like-mindedness in one's companions, the stronger the bond between them. And when they are together, another beautiful human element – empathy – is put to action. Their helping tendency is at its best.
Fan clubs – formed by common attraction and affection for an actor – are no exception to this rule. These clubs gradually shhift toward humanitarian services when this innate human tendency takes over; by this, these fan clubs do more than just exalting an actor and hero worship.
That is exactly what recently happened when Kamal Haasan’s fan club members chose to help some inmates of old age homes and orphanages. They decided to give them the simple luxury of ceiling fans. They timed the distribution of electric fans on the 50th day celebration of Dasavathaaram.
It was thoughtful of Kamal Haasan, who is busy with Marmayogi's storyboarding and casting, to oblige their request to give away these electric fans on their behalf. This event took place at the office of Rajkamal Productions in Chennai. Gunaseelan, the fan club president, the chief members of the fan club, and P.R.O. Nikhil were present at the event.
It is not that organizations like these wait for occasions like their favourite actor’s film release or birthday to perform a good deed. They do it even when their favourite actor is out of action.
It is good to see fan clubs getting involved in humanitarian services. But at the same time, a fan has to be aware that no actor requests a fan club to make such donations; fans are fans, not politicians. So humble fan clubs, who give credit for their noble deeds to their favourite actors, should know where to draw the line to be able serve society better.
