Caravans seized; Ravan shifted to Hogenekkal
The shooting of ace director Mani Ratnam's much-anticipated bilingual tentatively titled Ravan/ Asokavanam, being simultaneously made in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu, was temporarily halted in Ooty, after the police seized two caravans belonging to the unit on Tuesday for having forged vehicle documents. A police official said both caravans had the same registration number.
According to reports, the vehicles seized in Ooty have been valued at Rs. 120 lakhs. Both Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai are said to have used the vehicles during the shooting. After the incident, the shooting of Ravan has been shifted to another hill station near Hogenekkal.
Sources close to Mani Ratnam reportedly said: “To our knowledge only two vehicles that were being operated for us have been seized. The suppliers who lent logistical support to our outdoor units should be blamed. Our shooting is in progress without any glitches. Our office has taken up the issue with the suppliers."
Since Ravan began its shooting last year, minor problems have dogged the venture, including Mani Ratnam being laid down with a mild heart problem, cinematographer Manikandan quitting and his work being taken over by celebrated cameraman Santosh Sivan. Earlier, the Kerala Forest Department also stopped Mani Ratnam from filming Ravan in the jungles of Malayathur, after it was found that the crew had constructed huts inside the forest, which comes under protected and reserve areas.
