Avatar sinks Titanic

Titanic sinks, this time not because of an iceberg but because of a blue skinned 3D film. Finally Avatar dethroned Titanic on Tuesday to became the highest grossing movie of all time.

Towards the end of the last decade, James Cameron's epic Titanic became the most successful movie, making $1.843bn worldwide. But the record no longer stands, Avatar – also directed by Cameron – was crowned as the all-time global box office champ, with $1.859bn worldwide on Tuesday.

Directed by James Cameron and produced by 20th Century Fox, Avatar is an epic action adventure. The film was first conceived by Cameron 14 years ago, when the means to realize his vision did not yet exist. Cameron again combines elements of massive spectacle and intimate character to tell a relatable and emotional tale.
