The art of dubbing
Many times, for many of us, a movie's effect stops with just providing entertainment. We do not have the interest to look into finer things that go into making the theme impressive, the characters prominent. The technical crew works behind the scenes, chiselling all the nuances and readying the final product.
Dubbing is one such aspect that blends with the characters in a movie and provides the required dimension. A dubbing artist's job is extremely skilled. A dubbing artist needs to have a special knack to mould his/ her voice according to the character and give it the necessary emotions and depth.
For many heroines who come from different states with an ambition to act in Kollywood withut knowing the local language, dubbing is unavoidable. It helps them bridge the gap between appearing on the screen and communicating with the audience. Some voices are regularly heard in dubbing circles. Anuradha, Hemamalini, Uma and Savitha are some of the many dubbing artists who have dubbed for frontline heroines such as Ambika, Radha, Nathiya, Simran, Jyotika, Sonia Agarwal, Tamannaah, etc. Rohini too dubs for many heroines. Nizhalgal Ravi and Muthukaalai are frequently heard dubbing for heroes amd villains. For a long period, many confused S.N.Surendar's voice with actor Mohan's. How many times have we marvelled the sweetness and agility in these voices?
We also have top actors dubbing for characters in animation films and for other language films dubbed into Tamil. But that is a matter to be discussed in another article...
Let us take this opportunity to salute the diligent work of dubbing and these performers' contribution to cinema.
