Will Rahman shine at the Grammys?

India's music genius and Oscar award winner A.R. Rahman has been nominated in two categories at the 2010 Grammy Awards for his Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack. The Mozart of Madras has been nominated in the best soundtrack for motion pictures and in the best song for motion pictures for 'Jai Ho'.

The 52thAnnual Grammy Awards will be held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles today (Janyary 31, 2010). This is the first time that the 44-year-old music director has been nominated for the Grammys.

Written by lyricist Gulzar, 'Jai Ho' was sung by Sukhvinder Singh, Tanvi Shah, Mahalaxmi Iyer, Vijay Prakash and Rahman himself. Rahman won two Oscars for Slumdog Millionaire and the best original score award at the 2009 Golden Globe Award.

Tabla wizard Zakir Hussain, who won a Grammy last year, has bagged a nomination in the Best Classical Crossover Album category for his album 'The Melody of Rhythm'. It features Leonard Slatkin, Bela Fleck, Hussain and Edgar Meyer.

Sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan is also nominated in the Traditional World Music category for his album 'Ancient Sounds' in collaboration with Iraqi oud artiste Rahim Alhaj.
