Producers’ Council meet: agenda: Reduce production costs
The Producers’ Council will convene a meeting on Sunday at Film Chamber to discuss about burgeoning productions costs and methods to reduce them. The council’s president Ramanarayanan has made this announcement.
Ramanarayanan announced that our Chief Minister Mr. Karunanidhi’s initiatives have helped even those who make low-budget films, taking the number of films releasing to 120 (in 2008). While this is a happy and encouraging news, Ramanarayanan and other producers are upset that several deserving films end up as losers. On inspection, Ramanarayanan and his office-bearers have come to conclusion that video piracy (which is still rampant despite stringent actions being taken) and production costs are the major reasons for the failure of many films. Therefore, the council and its members will discuss these two issues in detail during Sunday's meeting.
After discussing these issues, the council will formulate plans to reduce production costs and handle the economic meltdown and video piracy. This is an important meet in Kollywood, which might put an end to the long debate over slashing actors’ pay.
