Happy Birthday Jyotika!

From the very first cameo appearance in Vaali, to her vamp portrayal in Pachaikili Muthucharam and her final role in Mozhi, Jyotika had audiences enthralled! She was not your typical skinny, glam-gal – a stereotype that thrives in cinema these days. For Jyotika, performance was paramount. She was at once the bubbly young girl and could immediately transform into the serious emotional lead lady. Her big round eyes spoke volumes. Her smile ensnared many a heart! At a time when Simran was swaying the masses with her graceful hip moves, Jyotika conquered all with her skilled acting.

Always playing the good natured gal-next-door, that gal every guy wished was his neighbour, she stunned audiences with her penultimate pick – her role in Gautam Menon’s Pachaikili Muthucharam. She plays a scheming sly woman who entraps the vulnerable married man, and then tries to extort money from him. After years of playing the soft-spoken good girl, this role was diametrically different. In Chandramukhi, donning the complex character of the possessed heroine, Jyotika once more proved that she had grown from the shy novice into a capable artiste. But Mozhi was something else altogether. She played the resilient speech impaired girl with finesse. And the awards flowed in.

The Suriya-Jyotika love story is one that was constantly spoken of by the media. The actors, however, seldom commented on their personal affairs. But whenever the couple starred together, audiences thronged theatres just to watch and enjoy the chemistry they shared. It was obvious to everybody that they were in love and it was just a matter of time before they wed. And when they did, fans and members of the film fraternity were happy for them. The only sad thing being Jyotika’s decision to give up acting and take on the role of homemaker. The handsome couple is now celebrating their togetherness by indulging in the whims and fancies of their cherubic daughter Diya! May the joy she brings, last them a lifetime...
