Ghajini: Christmas release halted

In quite a disturbing set of incidents, The Madras High Court granted interim injunction (court order prohibiting a specific course of action) against the national and international release of Murugadoss’s Ghajini. The film – which has a riveting screenplay by A.R. Murugadoss and Aamir and Asin in the lead – has caught every Bollywood film buff’s attention and was eagerly awaited this Christmas. But with this injunction, Ghajini will be postponed until the plaintiff A. Chandrasekaran and respondents – A.R. Murugadoss, Geetha Arts Division of Allu Entertainment, Ad Lab Films Pvt Limited, Mumbai – reach an agreement.

A. Chandrasekaran, who produced the film in Tamil, says that he was forced to file this  suit to protect his rights. He complained that he is the rightful owner of the Hindi remake rights, as he had sold only the Telugu remake rights, Chennai city rights, and satellite and dubbing rights. This naturally entitles him the ownership of the film’s copyrights still and precludes anyone from remaking Ghajini in any other language (except Telugu, which has already been sold by him). Thus the respondents in question have clearly infringed on his copyrights by remaking it in Hindi, according to his affidavit.

The Madras High Court, after verifying the affidavit and proofs, came to the decision of halting the film’s release internationally! Wait for further updates!
