Arundhathi in Malayalam

Voluptuous beauty Anushka’s Kodi Ramakrishna directed Telugu blockbuster Arundhathi, which was dubbed and released in Tamil on March 20 last year, will soon have its Malayalam version releasing on March 26, 2010.

Produced by Shyam Prasad Reddy, Arundhathi set a phenomenal box office record in Andhra Pradesh, collecting a gross amount of Rs. 26 crores within a few days of its Telugu release in January 2009.

The film revolves around Arundhathi (Anushka), granddaughter of the Raja of Gadwal Mahasamsthan. While arrangements are being made for her marriage, Arundhathi visits her native place. There she comes to know from an aged servant maid Chandramma (Manorama) that she is a lookalike of her great-grandmother Jejamma (Anushka). Chandramma reveals the unusual history of Arundhathi's family.

Arundhathi's grandmother Jejamma had an elder sister, who was married to her father's nephew Pasupati (Sonu Sood). Pasupati, a womaniser, used to rape women and kill those who objected. Because of this, Jejamma's sister committed suicide. With the approval of Jejamma and her father, the people of Gadwal tried to kill Pasupati. But he was saved by Aghoras, a devil worshiper. Pasupati later mastered the tantrik arts and entered Gadwal fort to take revenge.

In a battle, Jejamma cut off his tongue and thus prevented him from becoming a 'pretatma'. She later buried Pasupati alive in a tomb along with the powerful 'yantras' and holy scriptures, so that he could never become a 'pretatma' again. After this flashback from Chandramma,  a worker unknowingly breaks open the tomb and releases the 'pretatma'. How Arundhathi wipes out Pasupati with the help of a weapon made by her great-grandmother forms the climax.
