I did not mimic Achuthanandan: Thilakan

There was criticism against Suresh Gopi's latest cop tale Ayudham directed by Nishad, saying veteran actor Thilakan's role as a Chief Minister (Madhavan) in the film is strikingly similar to Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan in style and flavour and the actor has mimicked the Communist leader.

However, Thilakan denied these allegations and said during a meet-the-press programme at the Thiruvananthapuram Press Club on Sunday that the resemblance of his character to V.S. Achuthanandan in the movie was unintentional. He said that he was just playing a Chief Minister’s role.

“Mimicry is an insult. I am an actor. I have only played the role of the Chief Minister in the movie. Since I have not been a Chief Minister myself, I learned by observing the style and mannerisms of V.S. on TV, so it is possible some of his characteristic style has influenced my character in the movie,” Thilakan said. Director Nishad was also present in the meet to respond to queries from the newspersons.

Ayudham tells about Hrishikesh IPS (Suresh Gopi) investigating a series of blasts that rocked a peaceful coastal village named Vilayam. Bharathy, who became a sensation in Tamil film industry with Ammuvagiya Naan, enters the Malayalam industry as the female lead. Also in the cast are Karthika, Jagathy, Rajan P. Dev, Bala, Aadhitya, Keerikkadan Jose, Baburaj, Sidheesh, Biju Pappan, Seema, Suvarna, Urmila Unni and Shivaji Guruvayoor.
