Ex-official held in Jayamala case

V.S. Rajagopalan Nair, a former official of Sabarimala temple, was arrested on Wednesday in Kottayam by the Crime Branch in connection with a case relating to the controversial claim of Kannada actress Jayamala that in her youth, she had entered the sanctum sanctorum of the Ayyappa temple, where women in the 10-50 age group are barred, and touched the feet of the idol of Lord Ayyappa.

V.S. Rajagopalan Nair is the third accused in the Jayamala case. He was produced before the judicial magistrate at Ranni and remanded to judicial custody.

The revelation of Jayamala has become very sensational in the political and religious scenario of Kerala for the last several years. The actress also claimed that the crowd pushed her into the sanctum sanctorum and she caught hold of the idol’s feet to steady herself. Even after getting the investigating report, the Crime Branch has failed to register the case.
