Review - Shyloo (2011)
By Uma [ January 02, 2012 ]views: (1996)
Shyloo, a Kannada remake of the original Tamil flick Mynna starring Ganesh and Bhama in the lead roles miss out slightly when compared with Mynna. Mynna had strong emotional sequences, but the subtlety in emotions make this film a notch below when compared with the original one. Not a bad one though!
THE PLOT
The plot goes like this. Manja ( Ganesh), a village guy who is in love with Shyloo ( Bhama) since his childhood, does everything for her and sacrifices even his personal comforts for the love he has for her.
After Shyloo attains puberty, Shyloo's mother looks out for a rich guy for her daughter's marriage. When Manja comes to know about this, he becomes agitated and behaves violently. He even goes to the extent of beating up Shyloo's mother, who in turn files a police complaint against him. Manja is taken into police custody. But one day before his release date, he escapes from prison when he hears that Shyloo is being forced to marry by her mother. Thus starts a cat and mouse chase that dominates the rest of the movie.
PERFORMANCES
Ganesh has done a great job and he scores in the scenes where he expresses his love for Shyloo. Bhama as Shyloo is phenomenal. With the no make up look, she dominates the screen on the sheer power of her acting. Of course when compared to the original, the screenplay and dialogues seem to lag a bit behind. But all in the movie scores on the performances and of course the cinematography of Jagadish Waali. Munnar has been well captured in his lens and the freshness lingers in our memory for a long time even we leave the theatres. Another high point of the movie is Jassie Gift's music. The title song haunts everyone and the song 'O Jeevave' is a treat to our ears.
VERDICT
All in all Shyloo is a flick with some emotional sequences worth watching once.
